Routine is NOT Relationship

The good habits we try to create in the hustle and bustle of life can sometimes become unintentionally mundane and flat out “checklist worthy.” There’s no real thought about them eventually, because they become habit. While I had good intentions of spending time in God’s word, I noticed that my level of receptiveness was the first soil mentioned in Mark 4:15 (“Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as hey hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown into them.”)

I was well on my way to consistently hearing God’s word every morning through “the verse of the day” on the Bible app, but I found myself not remembering what I heard and read throughout my day. Literally forgotten, like it never existed. Sometimes, I would blame it on my “mommy brain,” but I noticed this was becoming a consistent issue. The Word had become “checklist worthy,” and all I can say is……He checked me…hard.

The revelation I am about to share with you actually came to me 3 days ago. I had to sit with it for a while, but it went it little something like this. Listen to this.👇🏽

Just when I thought He was done with me, he places this on my YouTube feed - “Get Out of Your Routine” by Sarah Jakes-Roberts and she prays “Spirit of the living God, there is nothing routine about you. Yes, you are the same yesterday, today and forever more, but you do new things. You do new things on the inside of us. You create new vision. You create new strategy. God there is nothing stale or routine about you. God you continue to mesmerize us with your exceedingly and abundantly way of being. And so God, we are praying that this would not just be a routine Sunday. That this would not just be a routine message. That this would not just be something we put on in the background to check off the mark that we listened to a Word from God…”

Then she goes on the talk about RELATIONSHIPS! I don’t want to butcher what she says lol, but if you have a moment, check it out here.

I am grateful for the way God shook me, to break a bad habit, in the good habit that I was creating. He’s such a loving God that he corrected me before the cycle began- to make sure that seeking Him in relationship would not be another box to check on my list, but my way of life.

I pray that this helps you sister or brother. Join me in not just adding God to your routine, but being intentional in relationship with Him.

XO, Simply Mia
